What is a sum insured?

The sum insured is the maximum amount specified under an applicable insurance cover, subject to the policy's terms, conditions, limits and exclusions. It should be considered in relation to the risk you are trying to protect.

What is a deductible?

A deductible is an amount or portion that the insured may have to bear under the policy before the insurer's liability applies, depending on the policy terms. Always check the schedule and wording for the applicable deductible.

What is a waiting period in health insurance?

A waiting period is a specified period during which certain treatments, conditions or benefits may not be covered. Waiting periods vary by policy and should be checked before choosing a plan.

What is a cashless claim?

Where a policy and insurer network permit it, a cashless facility can allow eligible treatment costs to be settled with a network healthcare provider according to the applicable policy terms and authorisation process.

What is IDV in motor insurance?

IDV, or Insured Declared Value, is a value used in motor insurance for the insured vehicle and can be relevant to the maximum amount payable for certain total-loss or theft situations, subject to policy terms.

What are policy exclusions?

Exclusions are circumstances, losses, treatments or situations that the policy does not cover. They are an important part of understanding insurance and should be reviewed alongside the benefits.

Why do insurers ask for documents?

Documents help establish identity, ownership, medical treatment, travel, loss, damage or other facts relevant to underwriting or a claim. The exact documents depend on the product and circumstances.

Can my insurance requirements change over time?

Yes. Changes in family circumstances, vehicles, health needs, travel, assets, locations or business activities can affect the protection you may require. Renewal is a useful time to review these changes.
